The Court of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is, chronologically speaking, the third judicial body of an international organization in the territory of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). The first such body, the Economic Court of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), has existed since 1992. Subsequently 2012, the Court of the Eurasian Economic Community was established. However, this body did not emerge concurrently with the creation of the Eurasian Economic Community; from March 3, 2004, to January 1, 2012, the role of the Court of the Eurasian Economic Community was fulfilled by the Economic Court of the CIS. The activities of the Eurasian Economic Community Court concluded on January 1, 2015, with the dissolution of the organization within which it operated. The Eurasian Economic Union legally succeeded the Eurasian Economic Community, and the Court of the Eurasian Economic Union assumed the competencies of the Court of the Eurasian Economic Community. Thus, this latest judicial body was not established from scratch but became a continuator in competencies and institutional aspects of its predecessors.
